Menyanthes trifoliata, commonly known as bogbean, is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial with trifoliate green leaves that float or stand slightly above the water surface. In late spring to early summer it produces clusters of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers with a pinkish tinge, creating an attractive display in boggy soils and along pond margins.
This species is valuable for pollinators and contributes to wetland biodiversity, providing habitat for insects and small wildlife. Its mat-forming habit and tolerance of consistently moist or shallowly submerged soil make it ideal for pond edges, bog gardens, and naturalistic water features.
