Carex acuta, commonly known as slender tufted sedge, is a robust, clump-forming perennial with narrow, arching green leaves and upright stems forming dense tussocks. This marginal aquatic produces inconspicuous, brownish flower spikes in summer, which rise slightly above the foliage, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.
This species is valuable for wildlife, providing cover for small insects and amphibians along pond edges and in wet meadows. Its upright, clump-forming habit and tolerance of consistently wet soils make it ideal for pond margins, wetland restoration, and naturalistic planting schemes.
