Allium schoenoprasum, commonly known as chives, is a compact, clump-forming perennial with fine, hollow, grass-like green leaves that create a neat, upright habit. In late spring to early summer, rounded heads of soft purple-pink flowers appear on slender stems, adding gentle colour and structure above the foliage.
The flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, giving chives notable ecological value as well as ornamental appeal. Widely grown in herb gardens, borders, and containers, this plant combines decorative qualities with usefulness, fitting easily into both formal and informal planting schemes.
